1 Nephi 14:17 - 14:21

1 Nephi 14:17 And when the day cometh that the wrath of God is poured out upon the mother of harlots, which is the great and abominable church of all the earth, whose founder is the devil, then, at that day, the work of the Father shall commence, in preparing the way for the fulfilling of his covenants, which he hath made to his people who are of the house of Israel.

In this day to tumult, God now begins His work of bring the Gospel to the earth and to His people. One might think it would be in a time of peace, but I guess He does it to show how war and suffering can be done away with by seeing the effects of the Gospel on those who live it. The dichotomy will awaken many to the folly of man trying on his own to bring peace to himself and his family. There are just to many who want power over them who have evil designs of power and domination.

In addition, God promised the ancients, that He would bring to Gospel to their descendants at the proper time. He is now going to fulfill His promise. I’m sure that they in the spirit world were praying for this.

1 Nephi 14:18 And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me, saying: Look!

14:18—Nephi looks again having been told what to be looking because he would not see what the angel wanted him to note if not. Again this wonderful teaching technique.

1 Nephi 14:19 And I looked and beheld a man, and he was dressed in a white robe.

He now witnesses a man dressed in white. He must be part of the effort to fulfill God’s promises to Abraham, Isaac Jacob.

1 Nephi 14:20 And the angel said unto me: Behold one of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

His calling will be to record what will be happening in the future and some things which have taken place in the past.

1 Nephi 14:21 Behold, he shall see and write the remainder of these things; yea, and also many things which have been.

This individual will be one of the twelve apostles. This is obviously John the beloved who is of early church leadership of Jesus’ day, Peter, James and John.
