2 Nephi 2:6 - 2:10

2 Nephi 2:6 Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for he is full of grace and truth.

Now because Christ loves us so much, He has done what is required to help us get back to God. The steps He needed to do to help us gain our salvation individually has been preformed by Him.

2 Nephi 2:7 Behold, he offereth himself a sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and unto none else can the ends of the law be answered.

That step was accomplished by His offering Himself as a sacrifice for our sins. Instead of each of us suffering for our sins, Christ will pay the price IF we are willing to repent of our sins. If we are not, He cannot help us. We will be on our own and we do not have the wherewithal to overcome our faults.

2 Nephi 2:8 Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah, who layeth down his life according to the flesh, and taketh it again by the power of the Spirit, that he may bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, being the first that should rise.

One can see just how important that the gospel of repentance be made known to the people of this world. If they were not informed about these things, no one would be returning to God presence. In fact no one would even know He existed and we would be on our own making up concepts about Him.

To be able to return to our Heavenly Father required a individual laying down His life and then taking it up again so as to make it possible for us to return as immortal beings to heaven. Someone had to be the first to put this program in place and Jesus was chosen to do that. He was the one who volunteered to do that. He loved us so much that knowing how hard it would be He do so.

2 Nephi 2:9 Wherefore, he is the firstfruits unto God, inasmuch as he shall make intercession for all the children of men; and they that believe in him shall be saved.

Because of His desire to help us, He was the first resurrect person in the history of this world. All will have this resurrected body, but to return to God with this resurrected body one must except the gospel.

2 Nephi 2:10 And because of the intercession for all, all men come unto God; wherefore, they stand in the presence of him, to be judged of him according to the truth and holiness which is in him. Wherefore, the ends of the law which the Holy One hath given, unto the inflicting of the punishment which is affixed, which punishment that is affixed is in opposition to that of the happiness which is affixed, to answer the ends of the atonement—

Because of Jesus dying for us, it is mandatory that we all come before God to be judged to see if we have lived according to the gospel or lived a good life at least. Since it is a requirement that punishments be handed out for misdeeds, Jesus became the whipping boy, sort of speak, and took the beating Himself. These punishments being opposite to happiness that is possible by living according to gospel principles.
