2 Nephi 5:1 - 5:5
2 Nephi 5:1 Behold, it came to pass that I, Nephi, did cry much unto the Lord my God, because of the anger of my brethren.
Relations are becoming more and more strained between Nephi and his brothers. Because of the death of Lehi, they no longer feel any desire to listen to Nephi or consider him their leader. They are still angry at all the events that have lead up to this point in their lives and want Nephi to shut up.
2 Nephi 5:2 But behold, their anger did increase against me, insomuch that they did seek to take away my life.
Because Nephi would not let up on his admonitions to his brothers and other rebellious members of the group, they were not treating to kill him if he did not be quiet. It was getting more vehement very day.
2 Nephi 5:3 Yea, they did murmur against me, saying: Our younger brother thinks to rule over us; and we have had much trial because of him; wherefore, now let us slay him, that we may not be afflicted more because of his words. For behold, we will not have him to be our ruler; for it belongs unto us, who are the elder brethren, to rule over this people.
There charges against Nephi were the same as they have been railing against him from almost from the beginning of the journey. They accused him of wanting to be their leader and dictator when it was not his right. The older brothers should be the clan leaders not the younger one. They also were just plain tried of having Nephi always pointing out their sins. There solution was to kill him to shut him up.
2 Nephi 5:4 Now I do not write upon these plates all the words which they murmured against me. But it sufficeth me to say, that they did seek to take away my life.
Since the accusations have always been the same from the beginning he will not bore us with all the things they were saying against Nephi at this time. It is enough to say that they were so angry that to kill another person was not out of the question for them.
2 Nephi 5:5 And it came to pass that the Lord did warn me, that I, Nephi, should depart from them and flee into the wilderness, and all those who would go with me.
And as the Lord had warned Lehi to leave Jerusalem when his life was in danger, Nephi is warned to flee for his life into the wilderness.
