2 Nephi 2:21- 2:25

2 Nephi 2:21 And the days of the children of men were prolonged, according to the will of God, that they might repent while in the flesh; wherefore, their state became a state of probation, and their time was lengthened, according to the commandments which the Lord God gave unto the children of men. For he gave commandment that all men must repent; for he showed unto all men that they were lost, because of the transgression of their parents.

Each person thus born on this earth is given enough time to try to over come his weaknesses through the repentance process. With the help of the conscience and the spirit of God and sufficient time, we all have a chance to become better people in spite of the fallen nature we get from Adam and Eve.

2 Nephi 2:22 And now, behold, if Adam had not transgressed he would not have fallen, but he would have remained in the garden of Eden. And all things which were created must have remained in the same state in which they were after they were created; and they must have remained forever, and had no end.

At first glance, it may seem that Adam and Eve gave a strike against us, but they actually did us a great favor and really what God wanted them to do anyway. God wanted them to become mortal or otherwise they would have remained in that state in the garden forever. They would have remained in a state of no progression or enlargement. They would have not been able to accomplish the purpose of their creation, that is, having children and progressing to Godhood. That would in turn not less us become mortals to experience the same.

2 Nephi 2:23 And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin.

They would have remained in a state of “going no where” for the rest of eternity. This state would not have allowed them to have children, nor to have experienced joy or misery. Not understanding the difference between good and evil. They would have not caught the significance of between good or sin.

2 Nephi 2:24 But behold, all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things.

God knew that the fall was necessary and set up the situation so that man would chose to take this step and become mortal.

2 Nephi 2:25 Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy.

In other words, the fall was necessary so that we could experience joy that comes from going through the mortal experience. That was not possible if a person remained a spirit and not gain a body.
