2 Nephi 9:51 - 9:54
2 Nephi 9:51 Wherefore, do not spend money for that which is of no worth, nor your labor for that which cannot satisfy. Hearken diligently unto me, and remember the words which I have spoken; and come unto the Holy One of Israel, and feast upon that which perisheth not, neither can be corrupted, and let your soul delight in fatness.
So don’t waste your money on that which will not bring you true happiness. Money spent for lavish clothes or jewelry is money which could have been used to help the poor. Neither spend time working for such things. They cannot satisfy as you keep wanting more rather than be satisfied with what you have. Only helping others satisfies. Actions such as this cannot be diminished in importance by anyone. They are held in reverence by those who are helped. Those who perform such good acts have good memories that cannot be corrupted or diminished. The more one does in this vain, the more happiness and satisfaction is gained.
2 Nephi 9:52 Behold, my beloved brethren, remember the words of your God; pray unto him continually by day, and give thanks unto his holy name by night. Let your hearts rejoice.
Jacob again pleads that his people will remember what the Lord has told them both in sermons and in the scriptures. Pray regularly to keep your mind on righteous things and thank Him at the end of each day for what you have received from His hand. One should be happy and satisfied in life not always wanting more of that which does not bring happiness.
2 Nephi 9:53 And behold how great the covenants of the Lord, and how great his condescensions unto the children of men; and because of his greatness, and his grace and mercy, he has promised unto us that our seed shall not utterly be destroyed, according to the flesh, but that he would preserve them; and in future generations they shall become a righteous branch unto the house of Israel.
Jacob wants his people to remember that God knows just how hard life is and He has done everything possible to help us get through life with minimal frustrations. Gods great attribute is His giving us all tools we need to be improve our time here in mortality. He could just send us here and let us get through this existence on our own, but He has given all sorts of helps such as the scriptures and prophets.
Further He has promised that even if things don’t right for us, at least the house of Israel will not be totally wiped out as other civilizations have been on this continent have been. Some descendants will be preserved even if they are not a righteous people until some future time when these descendants will have the gospel and repent of their sins.
2 Nephi 9:54 And now, my brethren, I would speak unto you more; but on the morrow I will declare unto you the remainder of my words. Amen.
Well that enough words for one sessions of conference. Jacob will continue tomorrow.
