2 Nephi 16:6 - 16:10

2 Nephi 16:6 Then flew one of the seraphim unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar;

One of these six winged angels come to Isaiah with a glowing stone which he had taken off the alter of the Temple

2 Nephi 16:7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said: Lo, this has touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

He then touched Isaiah’s lips. The angel then said his sins were forgiven and the influences of sins of the people would no longer trouble him.

2 Nephi 16:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said: Here am I; send me.

Isaiah then heard Jehovah asking who He should send among the Jews to testify of their sins. Isaiah volunteers to be the prophet to testify to the people.

2 Nephi 16:9 And he said: Go and tell this people—Hear ye indeed, but they understood not; and see ye indeed, but they perceived not.

Isaiah is therefore commanded to go to the Jews and testify of their sinful ways. Jehovah knows that they will not listen to Isaiah and they will not see that he is talking about either.

2 Nephi 16:10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes—lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted and be healed.

Because of their unrighteous lifestyle, they are full of pride and think only of themselves. They have much possessions and ease and think they do not need Jehovah for anything. (It is amazing that people will try all sort of philosophies and exotic lifestyles for happiness rather than try the gospel. They will try all but that one. Even if they were at death’s door and the gospel was all that was left, they still would not try but say it will not help.)
