2 Nephi 3:11 - 3:15
2 Nephi 3:11 But a seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins; and unto him will I give power to bring forth my word unto the seed of thy loins—and not to the bringing forth my word only, saith the Lord, but to the convincing them of my word, which shall have already gone forth among them.
The power of this seer will be such that the people will be convinced of his words to the point of their taking actions to put into place what the Lord tells him to tell the people. This seer will also reiterate what his been written in the scriptures in the past and how they relate to us. He will correct the misconceptions that prevail in the world concerning God and the Savior.
2 Nephi 3:12 Wherefore, the fruit of thy loins shall write; and the fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together, unto the confounding of false doctrines and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to the knowledge of their fathers in the latter days, and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord.
Lehi tells us that the reason for the Book of Mormon is to put down all the debate about religion. It purpose is to, at last, give us the true nature of God and his relationship to us. To show us what doctrines are interjections of man’s philosophies and what is from actually from God. It will also reveal the true nature of the covenants that the Lord made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that will be coming to pass in the latter-days.
2 Nephi 3:13 And out of weakness he shall be made strong, in that day when my work shall commence among all my people, unto the restoring thee, O house of Israel, saith the Lord.
The prophet who will bring forth the Book of Mormon will be weak as to knowledge of the gospel. But with the knowledge that will be revealed to him, he will be strong in the truth about God and what God is trying lead us too.
2 Nephi 3:14 And thus prophesied Joseph, saying: Behold, that seer will the Lord bless; and they that seek to destroy him shall be confounded; for this promise, which I have obtained of the Lord, of the fruit of my loins, shall be fulfilled. Behold, I am sure of the fulfilling of this promise;
Lehi quotes Joseph of Egypt, which he probably got off the brass plates, saying that there will be many who will try to destroy this seer, but he will be protected and preserve from his enemies. This is a promise to Joseph by the Lord and he therefore is sure that it was come to pass.
2 Nephi 3:15 And his name shall be called after me; and it shall be after the name of his father. And he shall be like unto me; for the thing, which the Lord shall bring forth by his hand, by the power of the Lord shall bring my people unto salvation.
This seer will have the same name as Joseph of Egypt and his father will also be named Joseph. This seer named Joseph will do the same as the Joseph of Egypt in that he will bring people to salvation in the gospel which is liken to Joseph of Egypt bring his family to Egypt to escape the famine in Canaan. This Joseph will bring us the gospel to end the famine of the word of the Lord.
