2 Nephi 25:21 - 25:25
2 Nephi 25:21 Wherefore, for this cause hath the Lord God promised unto me that these things which I write shall be kept and preserved, and handed down unto my seed, from generation to generation, that the promise may be fulfilled unto Joseph, that his seed should never perish as long as the earth should stand.
In addition Nephi has been promised that what he writes will be brought forth into the world and many will read his words that will live thousands of years in the future. This promise will be fulfill promises made to Joseph of Egypt that his descendents will not only be preserved to live for thousands of years but they will know of these promises made to him.
2 Nephi 25:22 Wherefore, these things shall go from generation to generation as long as the earth shall stand; and they shall go according to the will and pleasure of God; and the nations who shall possess them shall be judged of them according to the words which are written.
Even those who are not of Joseph’s linage will know of Nephi’s writing. And those who know of them will be judged as to how well they accepted and live up to the gospel.
2 Nephi 25:23 For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.
This is one of Nephi’s motivations that is to get all men to believe in Jesus Christ. To live according to the commandments of God that we may be able to come up to our full potential of being like Him. Because it is clear that in spite of how smart or talented we may be, we do not have what it takes to approach perfection. It take Jesus Christ's direction intervention to help us along the path to salvation. And it is the love that Jesus has for each of us that He is willing to give us the help we need because of the limitations that mortality puts upon us all.
2 Nephi 25:24 And, notwithstanding we believe in Christ, we keep the law of Moses, and look forward with steadfastness unto Christ, until the law shall be fulfilled.
Even thought the Nephites believe in Christ and are trying to live the gospel, they keep the law of Moses. That may seen strange, but if you think on it for a little, you will realize that the statues of the law are a part of the gospel. For example not stealing your neighbors stuff is part of loving your neighbor as yourself. Loving your neighbor means not doing to him what you don’t want him to do to you. Living the gospel automatically means you are keeping the law of Moses. The sacrificing of animals is however not part of the gospel and was required to be performed as dictated by the law even though again the Nephites knew the gospel.
2 Nephi 25:25 For, for this end was the law given; wherefore the law hath become dead unto us, and we are made alive in Christ because of our faith; yet we keep the law because of the commandments.
Again the Nephites knew what the sacrificing of animals represented and did so because it was required but they knew about Christ that sacrificing would be done away with after His death. Knowing that the law of Moses was to lead them to a knowledge of Christ and they had His precepts and were living them, they still had to living up to all the requirements of the law. And in spite of knowing that they were only temporary and would be done away in the future.
