2 Nephi 23:16 - 23:22
2 Nephi 23:16 Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled and their wives ravished.
They will see their own families destroyed as they may have done to the good people they made war on. Their children and wives will suffer the same fate they may have perpetrated on those they conquered.
2 Nephi 23:17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver and gold, nor shall they delight in it.
The destruction of the world is compared to the coming destruction of Babylonians by the Medes in the future. The Medes not be stopped by bribery. They only conquer. The spoil they will get by their conquering.
2 Nephi 23:18 Their bows shall also dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eyes shall not spare children.
No one will be spared. Not only will the young men die in large numbers but so will children.
2 Nephi 23:19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
This destruction will be like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
2 Nephi 23:20 It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.
After the destruction, the land will not be inhabited for years to come. No one will live there regardless of what their occupation.
2 Nephi 23:21 But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.
The only thing that will be able to live there will be wild animals. The buildings left standing will be the home to insects and rats. And only those animals that feed on these creatures will also live there.
2 Nephi 23:22 And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces; and her time is near to come, and her day shall not be prolonged. For I will destroy her speedily; yea, for I will be merciful unto my people, but the wicked shall perish.
All the wicked wherever they may live will be destroyed. There is no where to hide from the anger of the Lord. The righteous will survive but the wicked will be removed from the world stage.
