2 Nephi 10:16 - 10:20
2 Nephi 10:16 Wherefore, he that fighteth against Zion, both Jew and Gentile, both bond and free, both male and female, shall perish; for they are they who are the whore of all the earth; for they who are not for me are against me, saith our God.
Anyone regardless of religion, political persuasion, sex, or wealth who resist the Lord in His attempt to keep this land free or tries to keep His church from being established in the world are officially against the Lord and will suffer for it. They are members of the church of the devil and are “the whore of the earth.”
2 Nephi 10:17 For I will fulfil my promises which I have made unto the children of men, that I will do unto them while they are in the flesh—
Again Jacob reiterates that the Lord will fulfill and do what He says. These promises are not just spiritual in nature. They relate to what He will do while men are living. He can control events of living men even thought they might think otherwise.
2 Nephi 10:18 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, thus saith our God: I will afflict thy seed by the hand of the Gentiles; nevertheless, I will soften the hearts of the Gentiles, that they shall be like unto a father to them; wherefore, the Gentiles shall be blessed and numbered among the house of Israel.
But Jacob does reveal that their descendants will have a hard time in the future at the hands of the Gentiles. But eventually they will have a change of heart and will begin to help them reach their potential as children of our Heavenly Father. And whoever of the Gentiles will help the house of Israel will become part of Israel.
2 Nephi 10:19 Wherefore, I will consecrate this land unto thy seed, and them who shall be numbered among thy seed, forever, for the land of their inheritance; for it is a choice land, saith God unto me, above all other lands, wherefore I will have all men that dwell thereon that they shall worship me, saith God.
Jacob consecrates this land for his descendants. It will be a choice land and only for those who will be lead here. All who live here will be blessed above all others who live in other lands. And all who live here are to worship the God of heaven.
2 Nephi 10:20 And now, my beloved brethren, seeing that our merciful God has given us so great knowledge concerning these things, let us remember him, and lay aside our sins, and not hang down our heads, for we are not cast off; nevertheless, we have been driven out of the land of our inheritance; but we have been led to a better land, for the Lord has made the sea our path, and we are upon an isle of the sea.
For the knowledge of their being driven out of the land of Jerusalem is still in their memories and they feel bad about that. They should not be discouraged and think less of themselves because they have been lead to a better place to live. They are not cast aside by the Lord but are in a better place where they can become a righteous people without the wickedness of the leadership of the Jews in Jerusalem. They should be thrilled that the Lord thinks enough of them to bring them here and be free of all the evil back in Jerusalem. They are subject to the blessing to those who are mentioned as on the “isle of the sea.” This continent is a “isle of the sea.”
