2 Nephi 9:1 - 9:5

2 Nephi 9:1 And now, my beloved brethren, I have read these things that ye might know concerning the covenants of the Lord that he has covenanted with all the house of Israel—

Jacob says he has read these words of Isaiah so the people could know of Israel’s wonderful future. Jacob wants the people to know that they are promises made by covenant which means guaranteed coming to pass. These covenants are to all the house of Israel not just to the Jews or any other tribe of Israel but to all of Jacob or Israel's descendants.

2 Nephi 9:2 That he has spoken unto the Jews, by the mouth of his holy prophets, even from the beginning down, from generation to generation, until the time comes that they shall be restored to the true church and fold of God; when they shall be gathered home to the lands of their inheritance, and shall be established in all their lands of promise.

These words of Isaiah were to the Jews as well as others that they might know that these covenants will happen eventually. In time they will be restored to Palestine and their country will be theirs to live in again. This is happen as the true Church will be established among them. (Now this is interesting. The Jews are now living in Palestine and the State of Israel has been in existence since 1947. They do not allow any proselyting among them by us. So is this restoration with the true Church among them refer to another gathering in Palestine? I think yes. So far, it is a secular gathering, but not the gathering as spoken by Jacob here).

2 Nephi 9:3 Behold, my beloved brethren, I speak unto you these things that ye may rejoice, and lift up your heads forever, because of the blessings which the Lord God shall bestow upon your children.

Jacob wants his people to rejoice and know that Israel is not forgotten even thought they have forgotten their God. God is in control of their destiny and in time they will receive all blessing promised to them.

2 Nephi 9:4 For I know that ye have searched much, many of you, to know of things to come; wherefore I know that ye know that our flesh must waste away and die; nevertheless, in our bodies we shall see God.

Jacob speaks of these promises because many of his people have wanted to know about the future. I’m sure they have wanted to know if their descendants or the descendants of the Jews would ever return to Jerusalem. Even though they will not see this return while mortals, they will see if after they enter the spirit world. They will see it as resurrected beings.

2 Nephi 9:5 Yea, I know that ye know that in the body he shall show himself unto those at Jerusalem, from whence we came; for it is expedient that it should be among them; for it behooveth the great Creator that he suffereth himself to become subject unto man in the flesh, and die for all men, that all men might become subject unto him.

Jacob reminds them that they are familiar with the doctrine that was just read to them about the Creator coming down to be a mortal and experiencing life as we all do. He will die like we all will. He will know what we are going through so that we cannot accuse Him of not being able to judge us because He lacked the experiences that we had as mortals.
