2 Nephi 17:11 - 17:15

2 Nephi 17:11 Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God; ask it either in the depths, or in the heights above.

Ask for a sign to know what the Lord has said is true. Ahaz can ask for anything he wants.

2 Nephi 17:12 But Ahaz said: I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord.

However, Ahaz is afraid to ask for a sign. Normally it is not a good thing to do.

2 Nephi 17:13 And he said: Hear ye now, O house of David; is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?

The Lord says to Ahaz: you do not fear asking men for help, but you will not ask God for anything. God is the one that wants to be asked for things but you ignore Him.

2 Nephi 17:14 Therefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign—Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

The Messiah will have extensive training by God so He will know how to resist evil and never commit a sin.

2 Nephi 17:15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil and to choose the good.
