2 Nephi 26:6 - 26:10

2 Nephi 26:6 And they shall be visited with thunderings, and lightnings, and earthquakes, and all manner of destructions, for the fire of the anger of the Lord shall be kindled against them, and they shall be as stubble, and the day that cometh shall consume them, saith the Lord of Hosts.

And other devastation such as thunderings, lightings, floods. All these calamities will be because of their extreme wickedness and mistreatment of those who tried to get them prepared for the coming of the Messiah.

2 Nephi 26:7 O the pain, and the anguish of my soul for the loss of the slain of my people! For I, Nephi, have seen it, and it well nigh consumeth me before the presence of the Lord; but I must cry unto my God: Thy ways are just.

Nephi has seen these events in vision and although they are hard to look at, he has to confess that these judgments against his descendents were justified. They were a very wicked people and there was no reason for them to live any longer.

2 Nephi 26:8 But behold, the righteous that hearken unto the words of the prophets, and destroy them not, but look forward unto Christ with steadfastness for the signs which are given, notwithstanding all persecution—behold, they are they which shall not perish.

A bright note is that Nephi sees that there are righteous among them and they will be preserved and live through the devastation that will come upon the wicked. This is their reward for putting up with the wickedness of their neighbors and trying to get them to repent of their sins.

2 Nephi 26:9 But the Son of Righteousness shall appear unto them; and he shall heal them, and they shall have peace with him, until three generations shall have passed away, and many of the fourth generation shall have passed away in righteousness.

Nephi prophecies that Christ will appear unto his descendents after His resurrection. He will do miracles such as healings and showing them how to set up a righteous society. This society will last for about 200 years.

2 Nephi 26:10 And when these things have passed away a speedy destruction cometh unto my people; for, notwithstanding the pains of my soul, I have seen it; wherefore, I know that it shall come to pass; and they sell themselves for naught; for, for the reward of their pride and their foolishness they shall reap destruction; for because they yield unto the devil and choose works of darkness rather than light, therefore they must go down to hell.

After the 200 years, the society will turn from righteous like the Jews in Jerusalem and they will destroy themselves. Nephi has seen it in vision and it was very depressing to look upon. The cause of their destruction was their pride and listening to the devil and following his program of wickedness. They seem to want to follow satan rather than God and so they will find themselves in hell after this life.
