2 Nephi 10:1 - 10:5

2 Nephi 10:1 And now I, Jacob, speak unto you again, my beloved brethren, concerning this righteous branch of which I have spoken.

Jacob will now elaborate more on these descendants he mentioned in yesterdays session.

2 Nephi 10:2 For behold, the promises which we have obtained are promises unto us according to the flesh; wherefore, as it has been shown unto me that many of our children shall perish in the flesh because of unbelief, nevertheless, God will be merciful unto many; and our children shall be restored, that they may come to that which will give them the true knowledge of their Redeemer.

Jacob has seen in vision that the promises of prosperity and large numbers of descendants will be theirs as promised to Abraham and his descendants. However, because of wickedness, many will die in wars, famines, etc because they have fallen away from the gospel. But in the future, God will restore a knowledge of the gospel and they will come to a true knowledge of Jesus Christ.

2 Nephi 10:3 Wherefore, as I said unto you, it must needs be expedient that Christ—for in the last night the angel spake unto me that this should be his name—should come among the Jews, among those who are the more wicked part of the world; and they shall crucify him—for thus it behooveth our God, and there is none other nation on earth that would crucify their God.

In a vision, which was last night, Jacob was shown Jesus as He walk the earth as a mortal. The vision showed Jesus among the Jews and His earthly mission to of us mortals. He came to the Jews because they would be the only people on the entire planet that would kill their own God. (You would have to have such traditions and wicked men in power that they were willing to kill their God in order to keep their station. I can only wonder if they really knew that Jesus was a God or that they were blind to that as well and could only see that He was a threat to their power and He had to be killed.)

2 Nephi 10:4 For should the mighty miracles be wrought among other nations they would repent, and know that he be their God.

Everyone else would have repented because of the miracles that He would have performed. They would have surmised that He was a God and to be worship.

2 Nephi 10:5 But because of priestcrafts and iniquities, they at Jerusalem will stiffen their necks against him, that he be crucified.

Because the leadership of the Jews were so concerned to keep their power, they were willing to kill anyone who would interfere with their positions. Since they were supported by the people and received money in the form of taxes from the money changers, they would be will to do anything to keep the money coming in.
