2 Nephi 29:1 - 29:5
2 Nephi 29:1 But behold, there shall be many—at that day when I shall proceed to do a marvelous work among them, that I may remember my covenants which I have made unto the children of men, that I may set my hand again the second time to recover my people, which are of the house of Israel;
The Book of Mormon going to be published to the world for the purpose of beginning the work of preparation for the second coming. It will including the gathering the house of Israel from all parts of the world to fulfill the promised that He would do so in the latter days. As the process of preparation and gathering tales place, it will seem marvelous to all those who recognize it.
2 Nephi 29:2 And also, that I may remember the promises which I have made unto thee, Nephi, and also unto thy father, that I would remember your seed; and that the words of your seed should proceed forth out of my mouth unto your seed; and my words shall hiss forth unto the ends of the earth, for a standard unto my people, which are of the house of Israel;
In addition, the Lord is also fulfilling the promises made to Nephi and Lehi that what they have written will come forth in the latter days to their descendants so they will know about their heritage;
2 Nephi 29:3 And because my words shall hiss forth—many of the Gentiles shall say: A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible.
Because of the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, many will reject it saying that there is no need for additional scripture because we have the Bible which they say is all the scripture the world needs. (They have, I think, interpreted the Bible down or figured out how to view it so as to justify their philosophies. If something new comes forward, they will have to go through the effort of analyzing it so to make it fit their personal philosophies and life style.)
2 Nephi 29:4 But thus saith the Lord God: O fools, they shall have a Bible; and it shall proceed forth from the Jews, mine ancient covenant people. And what thank they the Jews for the Bible which they receive from them? Yea, what do the Gentiles mean? Do they remember the travails, and the labors, and the pains of the Jews, and their diligence unto me, in bringing forth salvation unto the Gentiles?
But the Lord calls people fools who think they have one book of scripture and any more would be a waste of time. However, if those who claim that the Bible is enough and were living strictly to this precepts, one of the things they would have done is give proper respect to the people who wrote it namely the Jews. Their treatment of the Jews for the last two thousand years is a sign of how closely the gentiles have even lived up to what it commands people to do. Their lack of living the gospel is shown by their treatment of the Jews and the help they have given to the Jews after their scattering from Palestine by the Romans.
2 Nephi 29:5 O ye Gentiles, have ye remembered the Jews, mine ancient covenant people? Nay; but ye have cursed them, and have hated them, and have not sought to recover them. But behold, I will return all these things upon your own heads; for I the Lord have not forgotten my people.
Instead the Gentiles have not given the respect to the Jews who were the ancient people who the Lord covenanted with that they would be the chosen people. The Gentiles have chosen to hate them and kill them and have not sought to return them to their lands of inheritance. The Lord is going to, as a result of the Gentiles treatment of the Jews, do these same things to them. As the Jews will and have suffered, so will the Gentiles. (As we witnessed the Holocaust so we also witnessed the slaughter of millions in the wars that have occurred over the years since the expulsion of the Jews from Palestine by the Gentiles. So the Lord literally has returned these things on their own heads. And we are seeing this in the world today in many places.)
