1 Nephi 11:37 - 12:1

1 Nephi 11:33 And I, Nephi, saw that he was lifted up upon the cross and slain for the sins of the world.

Nephi sees the Messiah suffering death by crucifixion. A terrible way to pass from this life. But as Nephi tells us, it was for the sins of this world. That if we would repent, He would pay the debt that sins creates in the halls of eternal justice. If he didn't, we pay.

1 Nephi 11:34 And after he was slain I saw the multitudes of the earth, that they were gathered together to fight against the apostles of the Lamb; for thus were the twelve called by the angel of the Lord.

Nephi sees the destruction of the Church started by Christ shown by the persecution of the twelve apostles which results in their deaths. Nephi tells us that the term apostles was what the angel called these chosen individuals. I guess apostles was an unfamiliar term to him. It means to be sent forth.

1 Nephi 11:35 And the multitude of the earth was gathered together; and I beheld that they were in a large and spacious building, like unto the building which my father saw. And the angel of the Lord spake unto me again, saying: Behold the world and the wisdom thereof; yea, behold the house of Israel hath gathered together to fight against the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

It seems to Nephi that the whole world is against the Church. The large and spacious building comes to his view which is equates with the wisdom of the world.

1 Nephi 11:36 And it came to pass that I saw and bear record, that the great and spacious building was the pride of the world; and it fell, and the fall thereof was exceedingly great. And the angel of the Lord spake unto me again, saying: Thus shall be the destruction of all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people, that shall fight against the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Nephi witnesses the fall of this great building of the air. It seems to me that this building being above the ground in appearance refers to worldly wisdom holding it up. When this wisdom is proven false, the building will fall to the ground and break into pieces. The philosophies of men seem to give one a lift for a while and many will flock to it, but after a while, sometimes many, many years, they will all lose favor and disappear from the minds of men. The only thing that will lift men up above the ills of this world is the Gospel of Son of God. Everything that man comes up with will not do that. I mean every religious, political or personal philosophy will let us all down in time.

I feel sure that the Millennium will be the time when the Lord will say to mankind: "You've had 6000 years to try it on your own, now it is time to do it the right way, step out of the way, I’m taking over. My government is already established and things will be done my way from now on." Many have looked forward to this day. I doubt very seriously if I will see that day, but I hope my grandchildren will see it.

Either way I will see it as a spirit of resurrected person in the future. I hope to see my descendants during that time and may have the privilege of bringing them information on their ancestors which I will have the opportunity met and learn about, so they can do their Temple work.

This will be a time of service for each other, not a time for supporting governments and political leaders, so they can have power and authority over us because they think they can tell us the correct way to behave or support each other. They will ALWAYS get it wrong. The Lord will ALWAYS get it right.

The twelve will be the ones to bring the Gospel to the world. We are to keep our eye on them at all times. They will lead us correctly. If we reject or take our eyes off them, we will fall. It is certain as night follows day that we will suffer both in body and spirit if we do not follow their preaching's and leadership. When the world did so in Jesus’ time, the world fell into apostasy and it lasted 1700 odd years. And that 1700 years was a rough time for the inhabitants of this world, as shown by repeated wars, fighting between religions both spiritual and political.

Men without leaders of the divine will ALWAYS get it wrong and death and destruction will ALWAYS follow. That is what was meant when the angel said to Nephi that the rejection of the twelve lead to the destruction of ALL nations, races, tongues and people. For many nations do not exist anymore, many languages are no long spoken and how many people have die in war, in the millions. How sad can our Father in Heaven be over all this foolishness?

1 Nephi 12:1 And it came to pass that the angel said unto me: Look, and behold thy seed, and also the seed of thy brethren. And I looked and beheld the land of promise; and I beheld multitudes of people, yea, even as it were in number as many as the sand of the sea.

Nephi now sees the land where he and his family is heading for and the vast number of descendants of his that will inhabit the land. There will be so many that it would be like counting grains of sand on the sea shore. Since that is a tedious and not a very interesting activity, the numbers will have to be just thought of as beyond the ability to count.
