2 Nephi 6:11 - 6:18

2 Nephi 6:11 Wherefore, after they are driven to and fro, for thus saith the angel, many shall be afflicted in the flesh, and shall not be suffered to perish, because of the prayers of the faithful; they shall be scattered, and smitten, and hated; nevertheless, the Lord will be merciful unto them, that when they shall come to the knowledge of their Redeemer, they shall be gathered together again to the lands of their inheritance.

They will be scattered all over the world, but many will be suffer persecution of various kinds and many will be killed . Those who survive these intense persecutions will do so because of the prayers of those how are faithful in obeying the law they are suppose to live by. (I’m sure that included many who were either in this side of the veil or on the other side). The Lord will see to it, himself, that they are not completely destroyed and shall be gathered again to Palestine. There, they will come to a knowledge of Jesus. (As to when they will come to a knowledge of his Messiah ship is the question and whether it be to have a testimony of his divinity is another.)

2 Nephi 6:12 And blessed are the Gentiles, they of whom the prophet has written; for behold, if it so be that they shall repent and fight not against Zion, and do not unite themselves to that great and abominable church, they shall be saved; for the Lord God will fulfil his covenants which he has made unto his children; and for this cause the prophet has written these things.

The Gentiles will be blessed as they participate in this restoration. If they do not fight against this, that is, the returning of the Jews to Palestine by actively trying to keep them from doing so, then they will enjoy the blessing of the gospel, if they will repent of their sins like we all must do even if we might be of the house of Israel. Either way, the promises made to the fathers will come to pass and the Lord has caused these to be written so we can know not only what will happen in the future but that we can know the Lord is actively engaged in this restoration and has not forgotten us even if we are unfaithful or have forgotten Him.

2 Nephi 6:13 Wherefore, they that fight against Zion and the covenant people of the Lord shall lick up the dust of their feet; and the people of the Lord shall not be ashamed. For the people of the Lord are they who wait for him; for they still wait for the coming of the Messiah.

Now anyone who is against the restoration of the house of Israel to their lands of inheritance and activity tries to keep the promises to the fathers from coming to pass will be frustrated in their efforts. Neither will the house of Israel shrink from putting all their efforts into this enterprise. The under lying thrust will be to get prepared for the second coming of the Lord.

2 Nephi 6:14 And behold, according to the words of the prophet, the Messiah will set himself again the second time to recover them; wherefore, he will manifest himself unto them in power and great glory, unto the destruction of their enemies, when that day cometh when they shall believe in him; and none will he destroy that believe in him.

This effort to restore the Jews to Palestine will be the second time. (First time I believe was when the Jews returned to Palestine in about 420 BC under Ezra). Because this restoration will seem to be miraculous to the world and many knowing of the prophecies about this event, many will see the hand of the Lord in fulfillment.

2 Nephi 6:15 And they that believe not in him shall be destroyed, both by fire, and by tempest, and by earthquakes, and by bloodsheds, and by pestilence, and by famine. And they shall know that the Lord is God, the Holy One of Israel.

The destruction of those who will try to thwart this restoration will come by war, natural disasters such as earthquakes and by disease or crop failure. Either way, the world will begin to see that the Lord has caused all this in order to fulfill his promises. All will see plainly the hand of the Lord in these events leading up to the second coming. (I think angels will be among the people of the earth whispering in their ears that these events are happening because of the direct intervention of the Lord. That they are witnessing the what has to happen before the second coming).

2 Nephi 6:16 For shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?

The world will see the house of Israel delivered from the hands of their enemies

2 Nephi 6:17 But thus saith the Lord: Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered; for the Mighty God shall deliver his covenant people. For thus saith the Lord: I will contend with them that contendeth with thee—

Those who are in the process of being delivered will seem to their enemies as almost invincible. The Jews will be unflinching in their resolve to fight all who will appose their efforts to remain in Palestine. But they will have to confess that the hand of the Lord is in their preservation. They could not do it on their own. (As a Israeli general once said, they do not believe in miracles, but they expect them).

2 Nephi 6:18 And I will feed them that oppress thee, with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood as with sweet wine; and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Savior and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

Their enemies will find that they have spent all their time, money and efforts in a losing effort. Their hatred will consume them so much that they can think of nothing else. In fact they will love the effort to make war on the Jews. However, they will fail as the Lord as mandated the return of the Jews to Palestine.
