2 Nephi 18:6 - 18:10

2 Nephi 18:6 Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son;

Because they have refused to live up to the gospel and only followed their kings.

2 Nephi 18:7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria and all his glory; and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks.

So Assyria was used by the Lord to destroy them. All their wealth was taken and the people either destroyed or taken captive.

2 Nephi 18:8 And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

Assyria will also come to conquer Judah. They will nearly succeed because of their military power and determination to dominate the region.

2 Nephi 18:9 Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear all ye of far countries; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.

If Judah thinks it can make alliances with others to resist the Assyrians, they will be mistaken. Only the Lord can help them from being destroyed. There is nothing they can do without the Lord’s help to stave off these predators from the northeast.

2 Nephi 18:10 Take counsel together, and it shall come to naught; speak the word, and it shall not stand; for God is with us.

Jerusalem cannot say either that the Lord will protect the city because they are of the house of Israel. Because of their wickedness, they were cut off from His help.
