2 Nephi 20:26 - 20:34

2 Nephi 20:26 And the Lord of Hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb; and as his rod was upon the sea so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.

When the time is right, the Lord will cause another power to come forth to destroy them

2 Nephi 20:27 And it shall come to pass in that day that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

So at some time in the future, Assyria will lost all its prowess as a strong nation and Judah will be free from it oppression. Assyria will be destroyed because Israel are the people who have been chosen to the covenant people who will bring the gospel to the world as soon as they are righteous enough to do so.

2 Nephi 20:28 He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages.

2 Nephi 20:29 They are gone over the passage; they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramath is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.

2 Nephi 20:30 Lift up the voice, O daughter of Gallim; cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.

2 Nephi 20:31 Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.

2 Nephi 20:32 As yet shall he remain at Nob that day; he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.

These are the cities conquered by the Assyrians before they were stopped at the gates of Jerusalem by the Lord with a plague.

2 Nephi 20:33 Behold, the Lord, the Lord of Hosts shall lop the bough with terror; and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down; and the haughty shall be humbled.

The Lord will destroy Assyrian but this verse also describes what will happen in the latter-days to those gentiles that are wicked. They will be brought low and humbles by the events of war, plague, etc.

2 Nephi 20:34 And he shall cut down the thickets of the forests with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.

All the wicked gentiles and all enemies of the house of Israel will be destroyed and Israel will takes its rightful place as the chosen people of the Lord in the last days.
