2 Nephi 25:6 - 25:10
2 Nephi 25:6 But behold, I, Nephi, have not taught my children after the manner of the Jews; but behold, I, of myself, have dwelt at Jerusalem, wherefore I know concerning the regions round about; and I have made mention unto my children concerning the judgments of God, which hath come to pass among the Jews, unto my children, according to all that which Isaiah hath spoken, and I do not write them.
Nephi has not told his children much about his life in Jerusalem but he is not going to write about it. He has not made any effort to tell them about the region or the evil culture that exists in and around Jerusalem and the cities near by. It would be like trying to describe the violence and decadence that we live in in the United States today as seen on TV for example. No use wasting time talking about such depravity. He going to spend his time talking what is to be the future of Jerusalem and what will happen to the Jews themselves as a result of their refusing to live as the prophets have told them they must.
2 Nephi 25:7 But behold, I proceed with mine own prophecy, according to my plainness; in the which I know that no man can err; nevertheless, in the days that the prophecies of Isaiah shall be fulfilled men shall know of a surety, at the times when they shall come to pass.
Again Nephi will write what he thinks is important for us to know and in a manner that we in our day can easily understand. We will see from what Nephi tells us what Isaiah was talking about. When events happen that he described, they will know that Isaiah knew and wrote the truth about our day.
2 Nephi 25:8 Wherefore, they are of worth unto the children of men, and he that supposeth that they are not, unto them will I speak particularly, and confine the words unto mine own people; for I know that they shall be of great worth unto them in the last days; for in that day shall they understand them; wherefore, for their good have I written them.
These interpretations and writings of Nephi are valuable to whoever reads them because of the subject matter. In fact Nephi speaks directly to those who think his words will be of no value. Because of the subject matter his writings will be of great value to his descendents. For they will give information and instruction for dealing with the not so happy events of the last days. Since they will understand that their time is the last days, they will find them of particular value and that is his purpose for what he is writing.
2 Nephi 25:9 And as one generation hath been destroyed among the Jews because of iniquity, even so have they been destroyed from generation to generation according to their iniquities; and never hath any of them been destroyed save it were foretold them by the prophets of the Lord.
It seems that the Jews have been destroyed from time to time and for their iniquities. However the Lord has warned them over time about their pending troubles. So Nephi is trying to warn his own people of the same things.
2 Nephi 25:10 Wherefore, it hath been told them concerning the destruction which should come upon them, immediately after my father left Jerusalem; nevertheless, they hardened their hearts; and according to my prophecy they have been destroyed, save it be those which are carried away captive into Babylon.
As an example, the Jews were warned by the prophets, Lehi being on of them, of their pending destruction if they did not repent. However, the prophets’ warning went unheeded and Jerusalem was destroyed by the Babylonians and many of the citizens were taken captive and forced to march to Babylon to live in captivity.
