2 Nephi 31:6 - 31:10

2 Nephi 31:6 And now, I would ask of you, my beloved brethren, wherein the Lamb of God did fulfil all righteousness in being baptized by water?

Now did not the Messiah do as He was commanded by His Father in Heaven? Did he not comply with the requirements of exaltation?

2 Nephi 31:7 Know ye not that he was holy? But notwithstanding he being holy, he showeth unto the children of men that, according to the flesh he humbleth himself before the Father, and witnesseth unto the Father that he would be obedient unto him in keeping his commandments.

We all know that the Messiah did not sin in His mortal life and did not need His sins washed away because he committed no evil. But He did show that He was not above the requirements to enter Heaven. He complied with the requirements of entry showing the Father that He, himself, knew He was not better than any of us as far as keeping the commandments. All God children, no matter how good they are, are required to follow the rules. There are no exemptions. No one gets a “bye” because of good behavior.

2 Nephi 31:8 Wherefore, after he was baptized with water the Holy Ghost descended upon him in the form of a dove.

And as a result of His complying with the requirement of baptism, He received the Holy Ghost.

2 Nephi 31:9 And again, it showeth unto the children of men the straitness of the path, and the narrowness of the gate, by which they should enter, he having set the example before them.

Again the Messiah did this to show what the requirements were to enter Heaven. He showed us by example how this was to be done.

2 Nephi 31:10 And he said unto the children of men: Follow thou me. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, can we follow Jesus save we shall be willing to keep the commandments of the Father?

The Messiah tells us to follow Him. Do as He says as it will show the Father that we are willing to keep His commandments so we too can return to His presence.
