Mosiah 17:1 - 17:5

Mosiah 17:1 And now it came to pass that when Abinadi had finished these sayings, that the king commanded that the priests should take him and cause that he should be put to death.

After Abinadi finished his speech to king Noah and his priests, the king ordered Abinadi’s death.

Mosiah 17:2 But there was one among them whose name was Alma, he also being a descendant of Nephi. And he was a young man, and he believed the words which Abinadi had spoken, for he knew concerning the iniquity which Abinadi had testified against them; therefore he began to plead with the king that he would not be angry with Abinadi, but suffer that he might depart in peace.

However among the priests there was one who got the message. His name was Alma, a young man and a descendent of Nephi. His conscience was pricked and knew that he was being told the truth by Abinadi. Alma pleaded before the king that Abinadi be let go and not harmed.
[Interesting that lineage is almost always mentioned in the Book of Mormon. Something we don’t do in our society.]

Mosiah 17:3 But the king was more wroth, and caused that Alma should be cast out from among them, and sent his servants after him that they might slay him.

Well the king became angry at Alma and had him thrown out of the group of priests and then sent assassins out to kill him so he would not make trouble among the people.

Mosiah 17:4 But he fled from before them and hid himself that they found him not. And he being concealed for many days did write all the words which Abinadi had spoken.

Alma fled to the woods and there recorded the words of Abinadi.
[Wonder how he was able to record all that Abinadi had said in such detail? I assume that the Lord was inspiring him on what to write.]

Mosiah 17:5 And it came to pass that the king caused that his guards should surround Abinadi and take him; and they bound him and cast him into prison.

After Abinadi finished his speech, the king’s guards surround him, tie him up and throw him into prison.
[I guess because, he was untouchable for a while, the guards surrounded him to keep him from leaving after his speech. But as they got closer to him and see they were not shocked, they grabbed him.]
