Mosiah 19:16 - 19:20

Mosiah 19:16 And now there was one of the sons of the king among those that were taken captive, whose name was Limhi.

One of the sons of king Noah was Limhi who was taken captive along with the rest of the people.

Mosiah 19:17 And now Limhi was desirous that his father should not be destroyed; nevertheless, Limhi was not ignorant of the iniquities of his father, he himself being a just man.

He pled for his father’s life even thought he knew his father was a rotten man. Even though Limhi was a good man himself.

Mosiah 19:18 And it came to pass that Gideon sent men into the wilderness secretly, to search for the king and those that were with him. And it came to pass that they met the people in the wilderness, all save the king and his priests.

Now Gideon, who now became a temporary leader of the Nephites, sent some men into the wilderness to find Noah and bring him back for the Lamanites. They did not find the king or his priest, but did find the rest of the men that had left their wives and children to save themselves.

Mosiah 19:19 Now they had sworn in their hearts that they would return to the land of Nephi, and if their wives and their children were slain, and also those that had tarried with them, that they would seek revenge, and also perish with them.

These men had now felt so guilty about leaving their families behind in harms way that they had sworn to go back and fight to the death to either save them or die in the attempt.

Mosiah 19:20 And the king commanded them that they should not return; and they were angry with the king, and caused that he should suffer, even unto death by fire.

King Noah tried to talk them out of it, but the men were so angry at their situation and knew that Noah was the reason for their plight, that they took him and burned him at the stake like he had done to Abinadi.
