Mosiah 26:16 - 26:20

Mosiah 26:16 And blessed are they because of their exceeding faith in the words alone which thou hast spoken unto them.

The people are a special group because they were converted by the words of Alma and not by some miraculous manner.
[Folks who can except the words of a prophet alone without some sort of compulsion are far more humble and can be worked with easier than those who refuse to listen or have to be hit over the head to get their attention. The Lord, who wants to elevate His children to go beyond their natural abilities, needs to have His people in the position of wanting to get the help and be willing to listen and try out what He advises us to do. We just will not get very far on our own. This is a hard lesson for many to learn.]

Mosiah 26:17 And blessed art thou because thou hast established a church among this people; and they shall be established, and they shall be my people.

Alma is thanked by the Lord for establishing the Church in the land of Zarahemla. He and the members are His people and will be so forever.

Mosiah 26:18 Yea, blessed is this people who are willing to bear my name; for in my name shall they be called; and they are mine.

Because of many of the people are willing to listen and obey Alma, they will be examples to all around them and will be supported by the Lord Himself as they try to help others find the gospel which will in turn developed them into a far more superior people. They in effect become Christ like and will unite with Christ to be dedicated to the same purpose.

Mosiah 26:19 And because thou hast inquired of me concerning the transgressor, thou art blessed.

In addition, because Alma has enquired of the Lord on this manner, he will be blessed. [He will be blessed to know what to do. In addition I think it is a recognition by the Lord that anyone who is not sure what to do can come to Him for answers. He loves to answer questions and loves the person to asks them.]

Mosiah 26:20 Thou art my servant; and I covenant with thee that thou shalt have eternal life; and thou shalt serve me and go forth in my name, and shalt gather together my sheep.

The Lord calls Alma his servant and tells him his calling and election are made sure. The Lord knows that Alma will serve in whatever capacity he is asked and will do so with diligence.
[This has to be a great boost to ones ego. To know that the Lord knows of your abilities and knows you will not fail Him. This has to give one confidence to know he can do whatever he is asked or commanded to do.]
