Mosiah 23:16 - 23:20

Mosiah 23:16 And now, Alma was their high priest, he being the founder of their church.

Alma was now the high priest and the founder of their Church.
[Have wondered how could Alma have the priesthood, if the priests were appointees of king Noah and one might think they were even unworthy to be ordained as priests. Either he was ordained by good men who were serving under the previous king and then turned bad after all the priests had been replaced by king Noah, or he was ordained correctly after his sore repentances by an angle or translated beings from previous dispensations.]

Mosiah 23:17 And it came to pass that none received authority to preach or to teach except it were by him from God. Therefore he consecrated all their priests and all their teachers; and none were consecrated except they were just men.

All those who were set apart to preach and lead the people were set apart by Alma, himself. Non of these men were thus put into these positions except they were righteous men.

Mosiah 23:18 Therefore they did watch over their people, and did nourish them with things pertaining to righteousness.

And these men did keep careful watch over their charges and help them with either their spiritual or temporal needs.

Mosiah 23:19 And it came to pass that they began to prosper exceedingly in the land; and they called the land Helam.

Since they were all working together to be a righteous people and not separately and everyman for himself, they were increasing in temporal goods and spiritual steadfastness. The land they settled in they called Helam.

Mosiah 23:20 And it came to pass that they did multiply and prosper exceedingly in the land of Helam; and they built a city, which they called the city of Helam.

They built a city and called it Helam.
