Alma 9:21 - 9:25

Alma 9:21 Having been visited by the Spirit of God; having conversed with angels, and having been spoken unto by the voice of the Lord; and having the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and also many gifts, the gift of speaking with tongues, and the gift of preaching, and the gift of the Holy Ghost, and the gift of translation;

Alma lists some if not all the spiritual blessings that the Nephites have received from the Lord:
1 - visited by the Spirit of God; converse with angels;
2 - heard the voice of the Lord;
3 – knowing of future events:
4 – having a testimony of Christ;
5 - having numbers gifts of the spirit;
6 – speak in languages that the people did not know;
7 – being able to preach with the spirit;
8 – having the gift of the Holy Ghost;
9 – being able to translate unknown languages:

Alma 9:22 Yea, and after having been delivered of God out of the land of Jerusalem, by the hand of the Lord; having been saved from famine, and from sickness, and all manner of diseases of every kind; and they having waxed strong in battle, that they might not be destroyed; having been brought out of bondage time after time, and having been kept and preserved until now; and they have been prospered until they are rich in all manner of things—

In addition, there are the physical blessing such as:
1 – gotten safely out of Jerusalem before it was destroyed:
2 – saved from starvation on the journey to the promised land;
3 – saved from sickness and disease:,
4 – strengthen in battle when they should have lost because they were outnumbered;
5 – being freed from domination by the Lamanites from time to time:
6 – being preserved as a civilization up until the present day;
7 – made rich as to the material things of this world.

We must not lose sight that we have been given these same blessing as well. Match up what you have received in your life to these two lists. You will find them the same, even the material and physical ones. Think how much more secure we are than the rest of the world where there is so much turmoil and kayos. Be very thankful that we live here and not in other places in the world!

Alma 9:23 And now behold I say unto you, that if this people, who have received so many blessings from the hand of the Lord, should transgress contrary to the light and knowledge which they do have, I say unto you that if this be the case, that if they should fall into transgression, it would be far more tolerable for the Lamanites than for them.

So, if the Nephites should far into wickedness after having the above blessings given to them, they will find themselves in far worse shape than the Lamanites at the judgment day.

It is one thing to act out of ignorance but wholly another thing to know better. No one has much tolerance for people who do nasty things and know they are doing nasty things.

Alma 9:24 For behold, the promises of the Lord are extended to the Lamanites, but they are not unto you if ye transgress; for has not the Lord expressly promised and firmly decreed, that if ye will rebel against him that ye shall utterly be destroyed from off the face of the earth?

The promises made to the Lamanites will continue with them into the future. The blessings that were to be the Nephites will be turned off. The Ammonihahites are in rebellion against the Lord and rebellion is not tolerated for very long. If they continue, they will be destroyed as Alma has already said.

Alma 9:25 And now for this cause, that ye may not be destroyed, the Lord has sent his angel to visit many of his people, declaring unto them that they must go forth and cry mightily unto this people, saying: Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is nigh at hand;

To try to prevent this catastrophe, the Lord has sent angels to call various people as missionaries to warn of impending doom if people do not repent.

I would like to think that an angel was sent to call me to preach repentance to the people of England and Wales. In addition I would like to know just how much influence did he have over the years in my life? Were we all watched over like Alma the younger was over his life time? I feel very positive that all who have been called to declare repentance, missionaries or whoever, were called by angels even though they were unaware that angels were indeed influencing them to prepare and get to work.
