Alma 16:11 - 16:15

Alma 16:11 Nevertheless, after many days their dead bodies were heaped up upon the face of the earth, and they were covered with a shallow covering. And now so great was the scent thereof that the people did not go in to possess the land of Ammonihah for many years. And it was called Desolation of Nehors; for they were of the profession of Nehor, who were slain; and their lands remained desolate.

After a time, people returned to Ammonihah to bury the dead. They were heaped into a pile and covered with a thin covering of dirt. However, the smell was so pungent that people did not try to repossess the area for a long time. The area was referred to by the Nephites as the Desolation of Nehors. This was because the people of Ammonihah followed the tenants of Nehor which was the reason the Lord destroyed them. Again no one returned to the area for many years.

Alma 16:12 And the Lamanites did not come again to war against the Nephites until the fourteenth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi. And thus for three years did the people of Nephi have continual peace in all the land.

The Lamanites did not attached the Nephites until the 14th year. For three years the Nephites had peace.

Alma 16:13 And Alma and Amulek went forth preaching repentance to the people in their temples, and in their sanctuaries, and also in their synagogues, which were built after the manner of the Jews.

During that time Alma and Amulek went about preaching the gospel to all that would listen. They held meetings at the Temple, in their places of worship and their synagogues. These synagogues were similar to the one that existed in Jerusalem which architecture was brought with Lehi to the Americas.

It would be interesting to compare the Nephite synagogues to present day ones.

Alma 16:14And as many as would hear their words, unto them they did impart the word of God, without any respect of persons, continually.

Alma and Amulek did not care who they were preaching too. They were trying to reach the entire population and your station in life was not an issue.

Alma 16:15 And thus did Alma and Amulek go forth, and also many more who had been chosen for the work, to preach the word throughout all the land. And the establishment of the church became general throughout the land, in all the region round about, among all the people of the Nephites.

While Alma and Amulek were preaching, they ordained other to do the same. As a result, the church began to spread throughout the land and people worshiping everywhere was now common place among all the Nephites.
