Alma 13:11 - 13:15

Alma 13:11 Therefore they were called after this holy order, and were sanctified, and their garments were washed white through the blood of the Lamb.

With the calling of being a high priest unto the most high God, the recipients still had to have their sins washed away and they be made pure to act in their offices.

Alma 13:12 Now they, after being sanctified by the Holy Ghost, having their garments made white, being pure and spotless before God, could not look upon sin save it were with abhorrence; and there were many, exceedingly great many, who were made pure and entered into the rest of the Lord their God.

The number of these recipients was large and it was through the Holy Ghost that this was all possible.

Glad to see that the number of recipients of the priesthood was “exceedingly large.” It is sometimes in our thoughts that the number of people who will make it to heaven will be a small percentage of the whole. However, as one author put it, he could not see our Mother in Heaven allowing her husband to make the requirements for Her children to return to her so difficult that few would make it. I concur. I think only a small percentage will choose other paths. I think many of us will be surprised to see folks we thought did not have a change.

Alma 13:13 And now, my brethren, I would that ye should humble yourselves before God, and bring forth fruit meet for repentance, that ye may also enter into that rest.

Alma is now asking the people of Ammonihah to do likewise and repent of their sins that they might qualify for the same exaltation that qualified for.

Alma 13:14Yea, humble yourselves even as the people in the days of Melchizedek, who was also a high priest after this same order which I have spoken, who also took upon him the high priesthood forever.

Alma wants the Ammonihahites to remember the people who lived in the time of Melchizedek who repented of their sins. It was because of the preaching’s of Melchizedek, a high priest, that the people made the changes to become a righteous people.

Alma 13:15 And it was this same Melchizedek to whom Abraham paid tithes; yea, even our father Abraham paid tithes of one-tenth part of all he possessed.

It was to Melchizedek that Abraham paid his tithing too. That tithing was one tenth of what he owned.

Wonder what Melchizedek did with the tithing funds? Did he build chapels for worship or build temples? Help the poor?
