Alma 21:21 - 21:23

Alma 21:21 And he did rejoice over them, and he did teach them many things. And he did also declare unto them that they were a people who were under him, and that they were a free people, that they were free from the oppressions of the king, his father; for that his father had granted unto him that he might reign over the people who were in the land of Ishmael, and in all the land round about.

The converted Lamoni now made some major changes in his government. He removed many of the restrictions he had in place which limited their personal freedoms. Now that he had complete autonomy over his kingdom and was also free from his father’s domination, he instituted laws that would give his people far more opportunities to progress in both religious and personal persuits.

I wonder if Lamoni, began to support himself and removed any taxes that was used for his support? I assume that he did not change the government and continued as their king.

Alma 21:22 And he also declared unto them that they might have the liberty of worshiping the Lord their God according to their desires, in whatsoever place they were in, if it were in the land which was under the reign of king Lamoni.

Lamoni also guaranteed that his people had complete religious freedom. They could worship as they pleased regardless of what part of his realm they lived in.

Wonder if there were any Amalekites or Amulonites living in his kingdom. I assume they could still worship their own way as well even if they were enemies to the ways that Ammon had brought to the people of Lamoni and that were now actively in place.

Alma 21:23 And Ammon did preach unto the people of king Lamoni; and it came to pass that he did teach them all things concerning things pertaining to righteousness. And he did exhort them daily, with all diligence; and they gave heed unto his word, and they were zealous for keeping the commandments of God.

Ammon continued his efforts among the people of Lamoni. He taught them to not slack up on keeping the commandments. He taught them more about the kingdom of God. He work every day to teach and the people responded by becoming a dedicated and righteous people.
