Alma 24:1 - 24:5

Alma 24:1 And it came to pass that the Amalekites and the Amulonites and the Lamanites who were in the land of Amulon, and also in the land of Helam, and who were in the land of Jerusalem, and in fine, in all the land round about, who had not been converted and had not taken upon them the name of Anti-Nephi-Lehi, were stirred up by the Amalekites and by the Amulonites to anger against their brethren.

The Amalekites, Amulonites and the Lamanites who were not converted to the Lord who live in the lands of Helam, Jerusalem and others areas of the land of Nephite began to desire the destruction of the converts.

Not sure why this resentment but I will guess that these folks could see that in time the converted would not cease in their efforts to convert their fellow countrymen and who knows but in time convert everyone. That would lessen the influence of the Amalekites and the Amulonites in time and could bring to and end their getting rich by priestcraft. These people were antichrists and with the backing of satan, they would not stop at anything to keep up their power over the people under their influence. Satan does not like anyone to disturb his kingdom.

Alma 24:2 And their hatred became exceedingly sore against them, even insomuch that they began to rebel against their king, insomuch that they would not that he should be their king; therefore, they took up arms against the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi.

The resentment continued to build until they began to openly rebel against the king. In addition they were arming themselves to either run the Anti-Nephi-Lehi’s out of the country or kill them.

Alma 24:3 Now the king conferred the kingdom upon his son, and he called his name Anti-Nephi-Lehi.

During this time the king conferred the kingdom on his son who adopted the personal name of Anti-Nephi-Lehi.

Alma 24:4 And the king died in that selfsame year that the Lamanites began to make preparations for war against the people of God.

As the Lamanites were preparing for war, the old king died.

It is interesting that we never learn the name of this king. I'm sure if he would have lived long enough that he would have been sickened by the events that were soon to take place in his kingdom.

Alma 24:5 Now when Ammon and his brethren and all those who had come up with him saw the preparations of the Lamanites to destroy their brethren, they came forth to the land of Midian, and there Ammon met all his brethren; and from thence they came to the land of Ishmael that they might hold a council with Lamoni and also with his brother Anti-Nephi-Lehi, what they should do to defend themselves against the Lamanites.

As the converts witnessed the war preparations of the Lamanites against them, Ammon, Aaron and the church leadership along with Lamoni and his brother Anti-Nephi_Lehi met in council to make plans for what they should do to defend themselves against the Lamanites who were sure to come against them.
