Alma 31:11 - 31:15

Alma 31:11 Yea, in fine, they did pervert the ways of the Lord in very many instances; therefore, for this cause, Alma and his brethren went into the land to preach the word unto them.

The reason for Alma and his companions going to the Zoramites was what Alma had been told just how corrupt was their present form of worship.

Alma 31:12 Now, when they had come into the land, behold, to their astonishment they found that the Zoramites had built synagogues, and that they did gather themselves together on one day of the week, which day they did call the day of the Lord; and they did worship after a manner which Alma and his brethren had never beheld;

Upon arriving in the land of the Zoramites, these missionaries found some very unusual religious practices, so much so that they had never seen such things. They had built synagogues and did observe a “Sabbath day,” but that is where the comparison stopped.

Alma 31:13 For they had a place built up in the center of their synagogue, a place for standing, which was high above the head; and the top thereof would only admit one person.

In the center of the room was a stand which was higher than one’s head on which only one person could stand.

Alma 31:14 Therefore, whosoever desired to worship must go forth and stand upon the top thereof, and stretch forth his hands towards heaven, and cry with a loud voice, saying:

During church services, anyone who wanted could climb to the top of the stand and say the following set prayer with their hands stretch to the heavens.

Alma 31:15 Holy, holy God; we believe that thou art God, and we believe that thou art holy, and that thou wast a spirit, and that thou art a spirit, and that thou wilt be a spirit forever.

They proclaimed their testimony of God’s existences, but that He was a spirit and will be a spirit forever.

Always amazes me how people seem to have a problem with the resurrection. What is wrong with a perfect resurrected body? Not believing in the resurrection of the body was a doctrine held by some of the Jews and is held by many Christian denominations today. Don’t understand what is their problem with the resurrection. Obviously it is an attempt by satan to put forth any concepts to put down the idea of exaltation.
