Alma 39:11 - 39:15
Alma 39: 11 Suffer not yourself to be led away by any vain or foolish thing; suffer not the devil to lead away your heart again after those wicked harlots. Behold, O my son, how great iniquity ye brought upon the Zoramites; for when they saw your conduct they would not believe in my words.
Alma pleads for Corianton to not be lead away again by the harlots and that he is to resist the temptations of the devil. What these people have to offer is worthless and will bring one down to hell. What really made this such a bed thing was the Zoramites resisted Alma by showing that even his own son was not living up to what he was preaching and use that as an excuse to give his words no heed. “If your kid will not live up to it why should we,” they would say.
Alma 39: 12 And now the Spirit of the Lord doth say unto me: Command thy children to do good, lest they lead away the hearts of many people to destruction; therefore I command you, my son, in the fear of God, that ye refrain from your iniquities;
The Spirit of the Lord told Alma of the actions of his two sons and commanded him to correct them because they were not being that great of examples, especially Corianton. The Spirit telling Alma that he had to fixed the situation with his sons before things got much worse among the Zoramites.
Alma 39: 13 That ye turn to the Lord with all your mind, might, and strength; that ye lead away the hearts of no more to do wickedly; but rather return unto them, and acknowledge your faults and that wrong which ye have done.
Alma commands Corianton to get his life back in order and to be in good standing with the Lord. That he do so sincerely and with real intent, not with empty words saying that he will do so. In addition, Alma wants his son to return to the ministry and go around confessing his poor behavior to the Zoramites to try and fixed the attitude of the Zoramites because of his poor example.
Alma 39: 14 Seek not after riches nor the vain things of this world; for behold, you cannot carry them with you.
Corianton is to not waste his time seeking for the riches of this world as we all know you cannot take it with you when you die.
Alma 39: 15 And now, my son, I would say somewhat unto you concerning the coming of Christ. Behold, I say unto you, that it is he that surely shall come to take away the sins of the world; yea, he cometh to declare glad tidings of salvation unto his people.
In order to help Corianton with his repenting process, Alma will explain somewhat about the mission of Jesus Christ and how His coming will affect the world and its inhabitants. This should help Corianton to know why Alma is so dedicated to the ministry and that it should help Corianton to why he should repent.
