Alma 48:6 - 48:10

Alma 48: 6 And it came to pass that they took their camp, and moved forth toward the land of Zarahemla in the wilderness.

While the Lamanite army under the command of Amalickiah, it was making its way through the wilderness towards Zerahemla.

Alma 48: 7 Now it came to pass that while Amalickiah had thus been obtaining power by fraud and deceit, Moroni, on the other hand, had been preparing the minds of the people to be faithful unto the Lord their God.

All the time that Amalickiah was obtaining power by lies and murder to become king of the Lamanites, Moroni was instilling in the hearts and minds of the Nephites that they must be prepared for the coming of the Lamanites, that he sure was coming in the future, by preaching the critical importance of being faithful to the Lord.

Moroni knew his enemy. He knew he would accomplish his evil goal of coming the leader of the Lamanites because of his successes among the Nephites before he escaped to the land of Nephi. Moroni knew that he had to get ready for the Lamanites because he knew that it was just a manner of time before Amalickiah would be back.

Alma 48: 8 Yea, he had been strengthening the armies of the Nephites, and erecting small forts, or places of resort; throwing up banks of earth round about to enclose his armies, and also building walls of stone to encircle them about, round about their cities and the borders of their lands; yea, all round about the land.

Moroni in the meantime had been going around to create defenses against when Amalickiah would surely be coming to destroy the Nephites. He had been building a defense in depth. In other words, small forts well-fortified with walls of stone and with earth piled up. This was also done around various cities and other parts of the county.

Alma 48: 9 And in their weakest fortifications he did place the greater number of men; and thus he did fortify and strengthen the land which was possessed by the Nephites.

In Nephite areas that were weak and perhaps difficult to defend, Moroni stationed his largest armies.

Alma 48: 10 And thus he was preparing to support their liberty, their lands, their wives, and their children, and their peace, and that they might live unto the Lord their God, and that they might maintain that which was called by their enemies the cause of Christians.

So Moroni was spending his time getting ready for the onslaught which was sure to come. It was his aim to protect and defend as much as possible, the freedoms, liberties, families, the right to worship and their peace which was called by their enemies the cause of the Christians.

We can ask ourselves, what are we doing to defend ourselves from the onslaught of satan which is sure to come? The Church has given us the tools. Lets use them!
