1 Nephi 4:21 - 4:25
1 Nephi 4:21 And he supposed me to be his master, Laban, for he beheld the garments and also the sword girded about my loins.
The Spirit has made the servant think that it is Laban who he is talking too because of the clothing and hearing what sounded like the voice of Laban. Here is one of the examples of the power of the Spirit, that is, make a man hear and see what the Spirit wants him to see and hear. What a interesting power the Spirit has.
1 Nephi 4:22 And he spake unto me concerning the elders of the Jews, he knowing that his master, Laban, had been out by night among them.
As they were gathering the plates, the servant was asking about the meeting Laban had had with the rulers of the city that evening. They may have been discussing what to do about the danger from the Babylonians that they were faced with.
1 Nephi 4:23 And I spake unto him as if it had been Laban.
Nephi voice continues to sound like Laban’s.
1 Nephi 4:24 And I also spake unto him that I should carry the engravings, which were upon the plates of brass, to my elder brethren, who were without the walls.
Nephi in Laban’s voice says he is to bring the plates to people who are waiting for them outside the city walls. The servant could only wonder why the plates were being taken from the Laban’s safe to be given to others outside the security of the treasury
1 Nephi 4:25 And I also bade him that he should follow me.
Nephi tells the servant to come alone with him.
