1 Nephi 4:26 - 4:30

1 Nephi 4:26 And he, supposing that I spake of the brethren of the church, and that I was truly that Laban whom I had slain, wherefore he did follow me.

When Nephi was talking about the people outside the city walls, the servant thought he was referring to church leaders. I guess Laban was out with religious leaders but who were the religious leaders of his day? I wonder if Laban in his job as a military leader was trying to calm their fears concerning the Babylonians? Or was it the other way around? Were the religious leaders trying to say that God will not let Jerusalem fall as He had saved Jerusalem many times in the past.

1 Nephi 4:27 And he spake unto me many times concerning the elders of the Jews, as I went forth unto my brethren, who were without the walls.

The servant continued to speak of the church leaders and I guess he was trying to find out what was talked about.

1 Nephi 4:28 And it came to pass that when Laman saw me he was exceedingly frightened, and also Lemuel and Sam. And they fled from before my presence; for they supposed it was Laban, and that he had slain me and had sought to take away their lives also.

As Nephi in Laban’s clothes approach his brothers, they thought he was Laban also and started to run. Their first thoughts were that Laban had killed Nephi and was now coming after them.

1 Nephi 4:29 And it came to pass that I called after them, and they did hear me; wherefore they did cease to flee from my presence.

Well after Nephi call to them in his own voice, they stopped running.

1 Nephi 4:30 And it came to pass that when the servant of Laban beheld my brethren he began to tremble, and was about to flee from before me and return to the city of Jerusalem.

Now when the servant of Laban saw that the man who he thought was his master was someone else, he started to flee back to town.
