2 Nephi 13:6 - 13:10
2 Nephi 13:6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, and shall say: Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let not this ruin come under thy hand—
When it becomes apparent that many are starting to lose their material possessions they will begin to look to those who are able to hold on to them and will seek them out to show them what to do. Losing their comfort and security will cause people to look for someone to save them.
2 Nephi 13:7 In that day shall he swear, saying: I will not be a healer; for in my house there is neither bread nor clothing; make me not a ruler of the people.
Those who are appealed too, will be just as scared of losing their possessions as those who appeal to them. They will not want the additional responsibility to helping others when they are in a precarious situation themselves.
2 Nephi 13:8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen, because their tongues and their doings have been against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his glory.
Isaiah tells the people that their troubles are the result of ignoring the gospel. What they are doing is against the laws of righteousness and the Lord will not support them in their wicked ways. (It is interesting that the Lord’s support is absolutely required to sustain one’s life and righteous life style. Man cannot do it on his own. It is against the nature of things for a man to think he, at no point, needs God’s help. When man does strike out on his own, he will find, in time, that he will fail to keep what he has managed to accumulated.)
2 Nephi 13:9 The show of their countenance doth witness against them, and doth declare their sin to be even as Sodom, and they cannot hide it. Wo unto their souls, for they have rewarded evil unto themselves!
Those who wake up to this fact will show their frustration in there countenance. Their guilty consciences will be evident to all to see them. This is the natural result of doing evil. Those who are wicked have only themselves to blame for their state of mind and situation.
2 Nephi 13:10 Say unto the righteous that it is well with them; for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.
The righteous, however, exhibit joy and peace. They are not troubled with guilty consciences or thoughts of the evil things they have done of which they have not repented of.
