2 Nephi 31:16 - 31:21

2 Nephi 31:16 And now, my beloved brethren, I know by this that unless a man shall endure to the end, in following the example of the Son of the living God, he cannot be saved.

This all confirmed what Nephi has written that one must do as the Messiah will do and be faithful after he has taken upon him these covenants until the end of his mortal life.

2 Nephi 31:17 Wherefore, do the things which I have told you I have seen that your Lord and your Redeemer should do; for, for this cause have they been shown unto me, that ye might know the gate by which ye should enter. For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost.

Nephi has personally seen in vision the faithfulness of the Messiah in doing all the same things required of us in mortality. Nephi has seen that because the Messiah was baptized and received the gift of the Holy Ghost, we must do the same. If we do the same we will have our sins forgiven and have to wondrous gift of the Holy Ghost.

2 Nephi 31:18 And then are ye in this strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life; yea, ye have entered in by the gate; ye have done according to the commandments of the Father and the Son; and ye have received the Holy Ghost, which witnesses of the Father and the Son, unto the fulfilling of the promise which he hath made, that if ye entered in by the way ye should receive.

If you have thus been baptized and received the Holy Ghost, you are on your way to return to God’s presence. You have fulfilled the basic requirements and are on the path to eternal life and if faithful unto the end of your life, all the promises made to each of us will be bestowed.

2 Nephi 31:19 And now, my beloved brethren, after ye have gotten into this strait and narrow path, I would ask if all is done? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far save it were by the word of Christ with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly upon the merits of him who is mighty to save.

So after you are on your way are you ok? No is the answer. You have only gotten this far because you have believed the word of the Lord and you have confidence that the Lord can truly save you.

2 Nephi 31:20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.

But what is now necessary is that you continue to increase in knowledge of the Savior and His mission. you must study the scriptures as if you were not getting enough of the words of God to fulfill you appetite. Couple this with keeping the commandments until you are safely dead. If you do these things, salvation is yours.

2 Nephi 31:21 And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.

This is what is called the doctrine of Christ. It is the only true doctrine that is recognized by the Father. And the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost are united in carrying out this doctrine among the children of men.
