Mosiah 2:21 - 2:25

Mosiah 2:21 I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning, and is preserving you from day to day, by lending you breath, that ye may live and move and do according to your own will, and even supporting you from one moment to another—I say, if ye should serve him with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants.

If you could serve God with all your abilities and talents, you could never repay Him for His work in providing for us this planet and the opportunity for mortality and all the blessing it will bring to us as His children. How does a mortal repay a God for that which He does on our behalf?

Mosiah 2:22 And behold, all that he requires of you is to keep his commandments; and he has promised you that if ye would keep his commandments ye should prosper in the land; and he never doth vary from that which he hath said; therefore, if ye do keep his commandments he doth bless you and prosper you.

Well all that He has asked of us is to do the few things each and everyday. If we would do so, God has promised us prosperity and personal security. Since He has never reneged on any promise made to us mortals at any time, we can rest assured that He will continue to do as we are obedient.

Mosiah 2:23 And now, in the first place, he hath created you, and granted unto you your lives, for which ye are indebted unto him.

Just look at His track record: He has created us to start with and put in a place where we can live, that alone is more debt than a mortal can repay.

Mosiah 2:24 And secondly, he doth require that ye should do as he hath commanded you; for which if ye do, he doth immediately bless you; and therefore he hath paid you. And ye are still indebted unto him, and are, and will be, forever and ever; therefore, of what have ye to boast?

Second, He has asked that we keep a few simple rules that will allow all to live in peace and safety. And as we keep these simple rules, He blesses us for our efforts regardless of how well or poorly we are able to live by them. Again the agreement is: if we do as He says, we are blessed. Since He does this immediately, we cannot say He has not done as He has promised. We may not recognize the blessing given at time, but He still has fulfilled what He said He would do. So we cannot complain that we have been shorted and He owes you nothing.

Mosiah 2:25 And now I ask, can ye say aught of yourselves? I answer you, Nay. Ye cannot say that ye are even as much as the dust of the earth; yet ye were created of the dust of the earth; but behold, it belongeth to him who created you.

The fact that our bodies are made from the materials that make up the earth which the Lord created should tell us how depended we are on him. Therefore we are no better, in a material sense, then the dirt we are standing on.
