Mosiah 24:11 - 24:15

Mosiah 24:11 And Amulon commanded them that they should stop their cries; and he put guards over them to watch them, that whosoever should be found calling upon God should be put to death.

Amulon commanded Alma's people to cease praying and put guards over them to see to it that they complied. Violation of this edict was death.

Mosiah 24:12 And Alma and his people did not raise their voices to the Lord their God, but did pour out their hearts to him; and he did know the thoughts of their hearts.

So Alma and his people prayed in their hearts to the Lord for relief and He heard them.

Mosiah 24:13 And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came to them in their afflictions, saying: Lift up your heads and be of good comfort, for I know of the covenant which ye have made unto me; and I will covenant with my people and deliver them out of bondage.

Inspiration came to Alma’s people telling them that He knows of their problems and He will deliver them in due time.

Mosiah 24:14 And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions.

For the mean time until deliverance, He will make their bodies to be able to deal with the increase work load to the point they will not seem hard to bear. He is allowing this so they will be witnesses of the ability of God to deliver them and anyone else for that matter by direct intervention.
[Here is a prime example of the ability of the Lord to manipulate situations we find ourselves in. He can change conditions or put up road blocks or even bring in third parties to cause things to happen in His way. We are not aware of this most of the time and only afterwards do we see His hand that has been working in the background. We need to know that He is aware of our various plights and if we are righteous, they will work for our good and be bearable even if they seem impossible to endure at the time.]

Mosiah 24:15 And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.

The Lord’s intervention this time was by making the burdens seem light. They were able to perform their tasks with little or no physical strain. They also did so with cheerfulness and patience.
[They knew the condition was only temporary and that deliverance was soon at hand. A good example of how to deal with setbacks. It is tough to do sometimes because we cannot see the Lord’s working in the background and it appears to us we are victims with no hope. But because they do have hope and have assurance that the Lord is working behind the scenes on their behave and that there is purpose in this situation, they submit with patience. Something we need to contemplate as we assess our situations from time to time. We need patience in our afflictions as well. If we have hope in Christ, we will have this patience. We will know that the Lord is working in the background and deliverance is at hand in due time. Often had the thought that it is our ancestors that are the ones looking over us and are our deliverers when the time comes.]
