Mosiah 23:1 - 23:5

Mosiah 23:1 Now Alma, having been warned of the Lord that the armies of king Noah would come upon them, and having made it known to his people, therefore they gathered together their flocks, and took of their grain, and departed into the wilderness before the armies of king Noah.

(Account of Alma and his followers after they escape from king Noah and flee into the wilderness)
Alma learns of the plan by king Noah’s police to find Alma and his followers and eliminate them. He therefore gathers up his people, their possessions and livestock and flees into the wilderness.

Mosiah 23:2 And the Lord did strengthen them, that the people of king Noah could not overtake them to destroy them.

The Lord supplies them with added physical strength so they can flee with great speed and stamina to out run Noah’s police.

Mosiah 23:3 And they fled eight days’ journey into the wilderness.

They fled for eight days.
[Wonder be interesting to know just many miles they covered. It seems to me that you can’t go very far in a day with women, children, and flocks. If they covered 20 miles a day, they would only be 160 miles away from king Noah, but that maybe enough for him to no longer be concerned about Alma stirring up trouble among his people. And if the ground is difficult to travel over, Noah’s army would be easily discourage from following them anyway.]

Mosiah 23:4 And they came to a land, yea, even a very beautiful and pleasant land, a land of pure water.

On the eight day they came upon a pleasant valley which had plenty of water and decided to settle there.

Mosiah 23:5 And they pitched their tents, and began to till the ground, and began to build buildings; yea, they were industrious, and did labor exceedingly.

They settle and started to put down roots. They planted crops, and built homes for themselves. They worked together to create a good place to live.
