Alma 5:26 - 5:30

Alma 5:26 And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?

Alma asks if anyone has had the feeling of a changed heart in the past, could they do so again?

Alma 5:27 Have ye walked, keeping yourselves blameless before God? Could ye say, if ye were called to die at this time, within yourselves, that ye have been sufficiently humble? That your garments have been cleansed and made white through the blood of Christ, who will come to redeem his people from their sins?

To do so again, one needs to have a conscience free of guilt of past sins. So, if one were to die this instant, would they feel comfortable standing before God? Could one say that they have repented of their sins and taken advantage of the atonement to gain forgiveness of their sins.

Alma 5:28 Behold, are ye stripped of pride? I say unto you, if ye are not ye are not prepared to meet God. Behold ye must prepare quickly; for the kingdom of heaven is soon at hand, and such an one hath not eternal life.

To be able to feel this forgiveness, one has to not be full of pride. If you are proud of yourself and feel you are better than those around you, you are in trouble. Prideful people will not find heaven a comfortable place to live. If fact, one better repent quickly as one is never sure when they will die. In addition, the Messiah is coming very soon, and prideful people will not be allowed to live when he comes.

Alma 5:29 Behold, I say, is there one among you who is not stripped of envy? I say unto you that such an one is not prepared; and I would that he should prepare quickly, for the hour is close at hand, and he knoweth not when the time shall come; for such an one is not found guiltless.

In addition to one needing to change their feelings towards God, stripping themselves of pride they must strip themselves of envy. Again, one will not feel comfortable in heaven if they are envious of those around them who seem to have more than they. Once more the Messiah is coming and this attitude will not be tolerated.

Alma 5:30 And again I say unto you, is there one among you that doth make a mock of his brother, or that heapeth upon him persecutions?

And those who criticize their neighbors for what they have or do not have and make fun of him, are not going to be tolerated either.
