Alma 5:36 - 5:40

Alma 5:36 For behold, the time is at hand that whosoever bringeth forth not good fruit, or whosoever doeth not the works of righteousness, the same have cause to wail and mourn.

Now is the time to do the right things in life. For those cannot show that they tried to do the right things, they will not be happy when they find out they were on the wrong path towards happiness.

Alma 5:37 O ye workers of iniquity; ye that are puffed up in the vain things of the world, ye that have professed to have known the ways of righteousness nevertheless have gone astray, as sheep having no shepherd, notwithstanding a shepherd hath called after you and is still calling after you, but ye will not hearken unto his voice!

This is especially true of those who spent their time in accumulating stuff while professing to be doing righteous acts but deep down they have been wasting their time. These are the people who followed their own hearts and minds instead of the One who could have lead them in the right direction to what they really wanted and that was true happiness. However, God has not given up and is still trying to get your attention, but it seems that many will not listen.

Alma 5:38 Behold, I say unto you, that the good shepherd doth call you; yea, and in his own name he doth call you, which is the name of Christ; and if ye will not hearken unto the voice of the good shepherd, to the name by which ye are called, behold, ye are not the sheep of the good shepherd.

Christ Himself is calling us all. He is using Him own name to get our attention. His is not using some other philosophy disguised as the gospel hoping we will accept it and then Christ can reveal the truth. He is stating just exactly who He is and what He represents. He is holding out His hand and hoping we will take it and follow Him. For those who will not take His hand, will find themselves being led by some other individual.

Alma 5:39 And now if ye are not the sheep of the good shepherd, of what fold are ye? Behold, I say unto you, that the devil is your shepherd, and ye are of his fold; and now, who can deny this? Behold, I say unto you, whosoever denieth this is a liar and a child of the devil.

That other individual is the devil. Anyone who thinks he is not being led by the devil has been deceived by him. In fact, the devil is their shepherd. Anyone who says they are not led by the devil are deceiving themselves. One is either being lead by God or someone else. The only other individual is the devil. Anyone who thinks otherwise, is lying to himself and others.

Alma 5:40 For I say unto you that whatsoever is good cometh from God, and whatsoever is evil cometh from the devil.

God is the only who inspires people to do good things, while satan inspires people to do evil things.
