Alma 19:31 - 19:36

Alma 19:31 And he, immediately, seeing the contention among his people, went forth and began to rebuke them, and to teach them the words which he had heard from the mouth of Ammon; and as many as heard his words believed, and were converted unto the Lord.

Now that Lamoni was back to himself again, he could see the contention that was present among the viewers of the scene of what had been happening over the last few hours. He then told them to knock it off and that he had just had a vision and that what Ammon had taught him was correct and that he had been converted to the Lord. And as many as would listen to Lamoni were also converted.

Alma 19:32 But there were many among them who would not hear his words; therefore they went their way.

However, as in all things, some did not believe or want to believe and left the palace.

As in all conversion efforts, some are ready and some are not. A seed was planted but had not enough nourishment to begin the growth process.

Alma 19:33 And it came to pass that when Ammon arose he also administered unto them, and also did all the servants of Lamoni; and they did all declare unto the people the selfsame thing—that their hearts had been changed; that they had no more desire to do evil.

Ammon now came to and began to administer to the people gathered around. Now only Ammon but the servants, as well, were teaching the people who had come to the palace. The story that Ammon and everyone else was telling the people was the same story of love and the need to change their attitude about all peoples. The desire to do evil had entirely left them as well.

Alma 19:34 And behold, many did declare unto the people that they had seen angels and had conversed with them; and thus they had told them things of God, and of his righteousness.

Many had seen angels in their conversion process and now went about the people telling them what they saw and what they were told.

Alma 19:35 And it came to pass that there were many that did believe in their words; and as many as did believe were baptized; and they became a righteous people, and they did establish a church among them.

As many as believed on the words of Ammon, the king or the servants were baptized and a church was setup in their midst.

I can image the work of establishing a church must have been a challenge all by itself. With no experience in running such a thing, Ammon must have been very busy educating everyone how carry organize wards and teaching leadership skills to the new converts. It must have been like it is in Africa today. They have many converts and lack leadership needed to run a church.

Alma 19:36 And thus the work of the Lord did commence among the Lamanites; thus the Lord did begin to pour out his Spirit upon them; and we see that his arm is extended to all people who will repent and believe on his name.

So the work of establishing the church among the Lamanites was now underway. This is proof positive that the Lord favors no one people. It you are willing repent of your sins and live as you should, you get all the blessing that comes with living the gospel. Blessing are NOT a function of your birth, only of your personal conduct.
