Alma 40:21 - 40:26

Alma 40: 21 But whether it be at his resurrection or after, I do not say; but this much I say, that there is a space between death and the resurrection of the body, and a state of the soul in happiness or in misery until the time which is appointed of God that the dead shall come forth, and be reunited, both soul and body, and be brought to stand before God, and be judged according to their works.

Alma is not sure when the resurrection will apply to everyone, whether when He is resurrected or after, but what Alma is sure of is that there is a period of time between death and the resurrection when people will be in the spirit world. They will either be happy in the spirit world because they tried to be good or miserable because they know they did not try and are now thinking about how it will be with them at the day of judgement. That day of judgement when they stand before our Father in Heaven will take place after their resurrection.

All will be resurrected regardless of way they lived their lives in mortality. This doctrine surprises many Christians. They think that the resurrection is granted only to the righteous as a part of their judgement. However, it is my opinion and only my opinion that the resurrected bodies will differ depending on what kingdom one is judge to be worthy of.

Alma 40: 22 Yea, this bringeth about the restoration of those things of which has been spoken by the mouths of the prophets.

This is what is meant by the restoration as spoken my prophets in the past.

Alma 40: 23 The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame.

The body will be resurrected and it will be restored to what it should be if it was without physical deformities.

Obviously this will be a great day for any who had any medical problems throughout their lives as well as those who were born with deformities. And this also applies to those things such as hair loss or even loss of limbs through accident or war. Much of the literature on the subject by prophets seem to indicate we will also look like we did in our prime which I assume is in our late 20’s or early 30’s.

Alma 40: 24 And now, my son, this is the restoration of which has been spoken by the mouths of the prophets—

So the restoring of our bodies made perfect with our spirits is called the restoration by the prophets.

Alma 40: 25 And then shall the righteous shine forth in the kingdom of God.

Then the resurrected righteous will then enter the kingdom of God.

Alma 40: 26 But behold, an awful death cometh upon the wicked; for they die as to things pertaining to things of righteousness; for they are unclean, and no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of God; but they are cast out, and consigned to partake of the fruits of their labors or their works, which have been evil; and they drink the dregs of a bitter cup.

As to the wicked, when they are resurrected and judge, they will be assigned to kingdoms where the spirit of the Lord is not present, because they did not want it in life. There they will reflect on their evil behavior for the eternities and that is what is mean by fire and brimstone.

An eternity of a guilty conscience and knowing what they could have had but turned their backs on it.
