Alma 33:16 - 33:20

Alma 33:16 For behold, he said: Thou art angry, O Lord, with this people, because they will not understand thy mercies which thou hast bestowed upon them because of thy Son.

God is very disappointed with His followers because they seem to reject the mercy extended to them for their sins because of the Son of God.

It’s like a person refusing a life raft that will save them when they are drowning. The people extending this help is naturally disappointed and sadden by such dumb behavior.

Alma 33:17 And now, my brethren, ye see that a second prophet of old has testified of the Son of God, and because the people would not understand his words they stoned him to death.

So this second prophet of old has testified to the save things in relation to praying and not doing so in a church and praying in relation to the Son of God.

Alma 33:18 But behold, this is not all; these are not the only ones who have spoken concerning the Son of God.

There are many others who have made mention to these same ideas particularly in relation to the Son of God.

Alma 33:19 Behold, he was spoken of by Moses; yea, and behold a type was raised up in the wilderness, that whosoever would look upon it might live. And many did look and live.

Moses was one. He raised up a symbol in the wilderness that if the people would only just look at it, it would heal them. Many did and lived.

Alma 33:20 But few understood the meaning of those things, and this because of the hardness of their hearts. But there were many who were so hardened that they would not look, therefore they perished. Now the reason they would not look is because they did not believe that it would heal them.

Not many understood the meaning of the symbol or what raising it up meant because they did not want to know more. They there were some that were so set in the ways they did not believe that looking would heal then and they died.

Most of the world refuses to even consider the concept of prophets in our time. They would even consider the idea and therefore they will perish in the face of a loving God trying to help them in these trying times.
